Please be on time for your appointment so that you may benefit fully. Wear loose clothing that can easily be rolled up to your elbows and your knees. Have something light to eat and do not come in on an empty stomach. Please do not brush your tongue, as this is an important diagnostic piece for us. Also, please avoid having stimulants (coffee or tea) before your appointment, since this will alter your pulse, which is another important diagnostic tool that we utilize.
Set aside enough time so that you are not rushing to and from your visit, we are trying to reset your system and establish a new pattern, by running around after your appointment or doing heavy physical labor you are more likely to experience a relapse into your old symptoms. If at all possible schedule your appointment so that you can go for a relaxed walk, rest at home or take a nap after your treatment, this will help settle and reinforce the momentum from your appointment to reach your treatment goals.
Please make sure you have your forms filled out, we have a long health history questionnaire so please make sure you have ample time to fill it out, the questions here are specifically geared towards helping us get a clear picture of your overall health and helps us to specifically identify your typical “patterns”. Understanding your pattern allows us to effectively treat your main concern along with other underlying factors that contribute to your symptoms. Please arrive a few minutes early and enjoy a cup of tea, it is a good idea to relax and settle in before we get started. After reviewing your health history we will invite back into one of our treatment rooms.
After listening to your concerns, we will perform a thorough examination, which includes feeling your pulse, looking at your tongue and checking acupuncture points. We will then provide you with a Chinese medical diagnosis based on our findings, and from this select the appropriate points to help you feel better. Most people find acupuncture very relaxing and rest with the needles for 20-40 minutes. Your appointment will last about an hour.
